Prime Minister to Launch Neopolis IT Township Project in Thiruvananthapuram

The Centre is preparing to announce the highly anticipated Neopolis IT township project in Technopark Phase-IV, Thiruvananthapuram, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi slated to officially unveil the Rs 1,000 crore initiative. This marks a significant step forward in transforming Kerala’s capital into a cutting-edge hub for technology and innovation.

Part of a larger vision by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Neopolis project is one of eight such developments proposed across the country, with Thiruvananthapuram being the sole city chosen from Kerala. The project is set to align with the broader goals of the Outer Area Growth Corridor (OAGC), aiming to bolster the aerospace, electronics, software, and IT sectors in the region. The state government has already taken proactive steps in ensuring smooth execution, forming a nine-member joint panel, led by the IT secretary, to oversee planning and coordination. An official associated with the project confirmed, “The Prime Minister will announce the project soon, and a committee has been formed to coordinate its development. While we cannot provide a specific timeline for its commencement, the Centre has prioritised it.”

The Neopolis township will go beyond just business infrastructure. It will feature integrated residential complexes, shopping malls, recreational areas, and luxury hotels, creating a self-sustaining urban ecosystem. This approach ensures that the township will be a fully-fledged, modern urban centre catering to both work and leisure. Central to the development will be technological innovation. Neopolis is set to focus on cutting-edge sectors like artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, machine learning, blockchain, data analytics, and the Internet of Things (IoT). These fields are expected to attract leading firms, fostering growth, research, and technological development in the region.

The Neopolis project will be implemented through a Special Purpose Company (SPC), a collaboration between the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, Andoorkonam and Mangalapuram Panchayats, Technopark, and the Capital Regional Development Programme (CRDP). This joint effort will ensure that all stakeholders are aligned for successful project completion. This ambitious initiative also complements the QUAD project underway at Technopark Phase-IV. Both projects are poised to transform the region into a global destination for tech industries and innovation, providing a strong foundation for the state’s growing reputation as a tech hub.

Strategically located on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram, the selected land for the Neopolis project benefits from existing infrastructure and proximity to future economic growth. The proposal was part of a broader initiative supported by the 15th Finance Commission, which allocated Rs 8,000 crore for the development of smart cities across eight states. The CRDP’s proposal, submitted in early 2023, demonstrated that the site met all necessary criteria to be included in this prestigious project. This development is expected to enhance Thiruvananthapuram’s position as a key player in India’s IT landscape, driving both innovation and economic growth in the region.
