Varanasi Development Body Adopts Geotrix Software to Detect Illegal Constructions

The Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) has adopted Geotrix software. This cutting-edge software will enable the city to detect and monitor illegal constructions in real-time across a sprawling 200 sq km area. The introduction of satellite-based monitoring aligns with Varanasi’s broader vision to streamline urban planning and improve sustainability in the face of rapid growth.

Experts from Advanced Satellite Transformation Software conducted detailed training sessions for zonal officers and junior engineers, familiarising them with the advanced technology behind Geotrix. VDA Vice Chairman Pulkit Garg emphasised the strategic importance of this new tool, noting that the software will not only detect illegal structures but also help in identifying potential areas for new development plots. Through Geotrix, the VDA aims to build a comprehensive digital map of the city, improving the accuracy of urban planning processes. The software will help generate valuable data about land usage, plot availability, and residential areas, which will assist in formulating more effective development schemes. Garg described the launch of Geotrix as a pivotal moment in Varanasi’s urban planning journey, highlighting its role in creating sustainable, well-planned urban spaces. By enabling officials to identify irregularities and respond quickly, the software promises to significantly reduce the incidence of unregulated construction that often leads to overcrowding and infrastructure strain.

The initiative also plays a vital role in Varanasi’s sustainability efforts. With more precise planning data, the VDA can ensure that new constructions are built in line with zoning regulations, minimising the environmental impact of haphazard growth. For residents of Varanasi, the new technology brings hope for a more regulated and organised city. Many locals have expressed their concerns about unchecked construction activities in their neighbourhoods, which have often led to congested roads, inadequate infrastructure, and environmental degradation. For these residents, the introduction of Geotrix software offers a sense of relief, as it means quicker identification and resolution of illegal constructions that undermine the city’s planning. Local officials, too, see the software as an opportunity to respond faster to emerging issues, ensuring that urban growth does not come at the cost of the city’s heritage or environment.

The software not only helps with real-time monitoring but also facilitates better planning for the future, giving Varanasi a much-needed tool to balance development with sustainability. For citizens, this initiative represents a shift towards a more accountable and responsive urban governance system, allowing them to witness a more orderly, planned, and livable city in the years to come. With sustainability at the forefront, Geotrix software promises a modern solution for urban management, ensuring that Varanasi’s growth remains harmonious with its historical and environmental landscape.
