In a landmark transaction, Amazon Data Services Pvt Ltd has acquired a 38-acre land parcel from Macrotech Developers, also known as Lodha Group, for ₹450 crore. This strategic purchase in Ambernath, located near Mumbai, reflects Amazon’s commitment to strengthening its cloud infrastructure in India. The transaction, registered on 12 November 2024, incurred a stamp duty of ₹27 crore. The land is situated close to Lodha’s sprawling Palava City, a 4,500-acre integrated township poised to become a major hub for residential, commercial, and industrial developments.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) highlighted its dedication to India’s digital and AI transformation, emphasising planned investments totalling $12.7 billion by 2030. The Ambernath land deal is expected to support the growing demand for data storage and cloud services, essential for India’s evolving digital economy. This acquisition aligns with the government’s push for technological advancements and localisation of data infrastructure, further solidifying Mumbai’s role as a critical hub for the digital revolution.
The deal resonates with Lodha Group’s ambitious plans for Palava City, which aims to generate annual revenues exceeding ₹8,000 crore through diverse developments, including a life sciences hub.
