Odisha Advocates Form Real Estate Bar Association

In a groundbreaking move, advocates in Odisha specialising in real estate law have come together to establish The Real Estate Bar Association, Odisha, the first organisation of its kind in the state. A formal meeting held at Pantha Nivas, Bhubaneswar, witnessed the participation of over 50 practising lawyers, who deliberated on the formation, objectives, and future contributions of this association to the real estate sector and its stakeholders.

The association was conceived as a platform to address the growing complexities of real estate disputes and streamline legal processes. During the meeting, members collaboratively drafted a by-law to govern the association and unanimously elected an Executive Committee to spearhead its initiatives. Sri Surya Narayan Das has been chosen as the President, supported by Vice Presidents Sri Silabhadra Sastry and Sri Sanatan Pani. Sri Chandan Kumar Mohanty has been appointed as the General Secretary, while Sri Biswaranjan Pattanaik and Sri Kailash Chandra Prusty will serve as Joint Secretary and Treasurer, respectively.

The association aims to uphold the principles of justice while fostering collaboration among legal professionals in the real estate sector. By providing legal guidance and support, it seeks to benefit various stakeholders, including developers, buyers, and governing bodies. Executive Members and other prominent advocates present at the meeting pledged to work collectively to resolve disputes and uphold the integrity of the legal system.

The newly formed body is poised to address urban challenges, including legal ambiguities in real estate transactions, disputes, and issues of sustainability within the sector. As urbanisation accelerates in Odisha, the association promises to contribute significantly by ensuring fairness and transparency in property dealings. At the meeting’s conclusion, Vice President Sri Silabhadra Sastry emphasised the association’s commitment to serving the legal fraternity and the public, while safeguarding constitutional values.
