Solapur To Build Maharashtra’s Second Largest IT Park Creating 45000 Jobs

Solapur is poised to become Maharashtra’s newest technology growth centre, with the state government advancing plans for what will be its second-largest IT park after Pune’s Hinjawadi. The 50-acre project on Hotgi Road is expected to generate more than 45,000 jobs and provide companies with an alternative to the increasingly saturated Pune market, marking a significant shift in the regional urban-economic landscape.

Officials confirmed that the site, previously held by the Water Resources Department, has been transferred to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation for dedicated IT infrastructure. A senior district administrator noted that the decision followed months of land assessments, with two other proposed locations deemed unsuitable due to legal and environmental obstacles. The Hotgi Road parcel, they said, offered the best potential for a future-ready tech ecosystem. The development, pegged at an initial investment of around ₹38 crore, will include internal mobility networks, water supply systems, street lighting and common services essential for large-scale digital operations. Aviation authorities have already cleared construction up to 50 metres, ensuring that the project aligns with air-safety requirements and regional land-use norms.

Urban planners describe the initiative as a strategically timed intervention. Pune’s tech districts have grown rapidly over the past decade, creating pressure on transport, housing and natural resources. By directing new investment towards Solapur, the state hopes to rebalance growth, reduce migration stress on existing metros and broaden economic opportunities within tier-two cities. An urban development expert observed that such decentralisation is vital for building more resilient and inclusive urban regions.Authorities also recognise that Solapur’s industrial environs require environmental attention if the IT park is to attract global companies. Efforts are underway to monitor and mitigate emissions from nearby power and sugar-processing facilities. According to an official involved in the project, the aim is to ensure that the new tech district supports healthier urban conditions while enabling long-term economic diversification.

Once operational, the IT park is expected to accommodate tens of thousands of employees working in climate-controlled indoor settings, reducing the impact of Solapur’s high temperatures on productivity. The design framework will encourage energy-efficient buildings, walkable internal roads and low-pollution mobility, aligning with state ambitions for more sustainable and equitable urban development.Construction is projected to be completed within 18 months. If delivered on schedule, Solapur will be positioned as a competitive node in Maharashtra’s technology corridor, attracting companies seeking lower real-estate costs, strengthened infrastructure and improved work-life balance for employees. For residents, the project promises new employment avenues, better public services and the possibility of a more balanced and environmentally conscious urban future.
