Guwahati Topcem Cement Strengthens Education With Fifth Annual School Stationery Distribution Drive

Guwahati-based Topcem Cement has reinforced its commitment to community development by organising its fifth annual school stationery distribution drive across Kamrup (M) and Kamrup districts in Assam. The programme supplied over 4,500 notebooks, along with 6,000 pens, pencils, erasers, and sharpeners, reaching more than 600 students from 12 schools and child welfare institutions. Focused on underprivileged and special-abled children, the initiative aims to ensure every student begins the academic year with essential learning tools and renewed confidence.

The beneficiary institutions included Assam Sishu Kalyan Sadan, Children Home for Girls, Seven Sisters Home, Observation Home for Children, UTSAH Community Centre, Kalyani Niwas, Ashaneer Home, Kasturi Children Care Home, Sneha Bandhan, Children Home for Boys, Jalukbari Higher Secondary School, and Saarothi School for Children. Representatives from these schools highlighted the significance of timely stationery support, noting that it eases financial pressure on families while directly enhancing classroom engagement. An executive associated with Topcem Cement said the programme reflects the company’s broader social responsibility goals. “Education is the foundation of equitable urban growth. By providing these resources, we hope to enable young learners to pursue academic success and build confidence for the future,” the executive said. Industry observers emphasised that corporate-led initiatives like this play a critical role in strengthening education infrastructure in regions where public resources are often stretched.

Since its inception in 2021, the annual drive has reached more than 3,000 children across Assam, gradually expanding its footprint alongside the state’s urban growth. Educators noted that the initiative not only equips students with stationery but also fosters a sense of inclusion and dignity, particularly for children in institutional care or with special needs.Experts on urban development point out that such programmes complement government efforts to create inclusive, sustainable cities by improving educational access for all children. In fast-growing cities like Guwahati, where economic disparities often translate into unequal learning opportunities, partnerships between industry and educational institutions are increasingly crucial for building socially resilient communities.

Topcem Cement has expressed its intention to continue and expand the programme in the coming years, reflecting a vision of corporate engagement that aligns with zero-carbon, inclusive, and equitable urban development goals. Through sustained support for young learners, the cement manufacturer demonstrates that community investment in education can be a cornerstone of long-term, sustainable city growth.
