Mumbai’s Central Railways Enhances Comfort with 7th AC Local Train Addition

In a significant upgrade for Mumbai’s rail commuters, Central Railways (CR) is set to receive its 7th air-conditioned (AC) local train, promising enhanced comfort and modern features. The 12-car rake, dispatched from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) on Wednesday, is expected to arrive in the city within days.

The newly manufactured AC train boasts a fully walkthrough design, enabling seamless movement across all 12 coaches. This innovative feature, combined with underslung electrical systems, ensures spacious interiors and reduced noise, significantly elevating passenger experience. With this addition, Central Railways aims to cater to the increasing demand for air-conditioned commuting options. Currently, CR operates 66 services with AC rakes, and the new train will bolster its capability to serve Mumbai’s growing commuter base. A CR official noted, “This modern AC rake will further strengthen our fleet and align with the demand for efficient, comfortable urban mobility.”

The underslung electricals mark a technological upgrade, as critical components are located beneath the coach floor. This not only enhances interior space but also contributes to a quieter travel experience. While AC locals initially faced resistance from some commuters due to fare differences, their popularity has steadily grown. Regular passengers appreciate the comfort, cooler temperatures, and improved safety features, with increasing ridership validating the investment in AC services. The addition of the 7th AC local signifies Central Railways’ ongoing commitment to modernising Mumbai’s suburban train network. It also underscores the city’s shift towards prioritising commuter comfort and advanced transportation solutions. The new AC local train is poised to redefine daily travel for thousands of Mumbai residents, blending functionality with luxury for a more pleasant commuting experience.
