Ranchi Municipal Corporation Targets Pending Holding Tax Payments with Notices to 1,200 Property Owners

The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has issued notices to 1,200 property owners, including 100 major defaulters, demanding payment of their outstanding holding taxes. This move is part of the corporation’s strategy to meet its ambitious holding tax collection target of Rs 83.27 crore for the 2024-25 financial year. As of November, RMC has already collected Rs 56 crore, and it is pushing to close the gap before the financial year ends.

Under the leadership of Additional Administrator Philbius Barla, RMC is intensifying efforts to accelerate tax collections. The municipal corporation has assessed holding tax for approximately 2.25 lakh properties within its jurisdiction, with particular attention given to properties that have long-standing unpaid dues or pending commercial tax assessments. Recent inspections conducted by Barla’s team targeted areas like Gopal Complex, Shraddhanand Road, Upper Bazaar, and Kutchery Road, identifying properties with overdue taxes. Barla emphasized the need for timely payments, warning property owners that penalties could apply for late payments. He also highlighted the importance of identifying commercial establishments that have been operating without fulfilling their tax obligations.

To raise awareness about the tax collection efforts, RMC has installed hoardings at prominent locations around the city, including Harmu Chowk, Sahajanand Chowk, and Albert Ekka Chowk. These displays provide direct links and barcodes for property owners to conveniently pay their dues online. RMC aims to complete the collection of all pending taxes by March 2025. As a part of its strategy, notices and reminders will be sent to property owners with outstanding payments. The corporation has also implemented a digital portal to facilitate seamless online payments, hoping to boost compliance and make the process more efficient. With the deadline fast approaching, RMC is working actively to ensure that all property owners meet their tax obligations and contribute to the city’s development.
