Gurgaon Enhances Public Transport with New Bus Depots and Electric Bus Fleet Expansion

Gurgaon is intensifying its commitment to creating a greener and more connected city. Under the leadership of GMDA CEO A. Sreenivas, the city has recently approved plans to build new bus depots, over 150 bus shelters, and state-of-the-art charging stations for electric buses, setting the stage for transformative changes in its public transport and connectivity landscape.

A significant portion of this expansion involves the creation of 154 new bus queue shelters (BQS), designed to enhance accessibility and make commuting more convenient for residents. These shelters are strategically located across key sectors, including 80 shelters between sectors 68 and 95, connecting important routes like the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) and Northern Peripheral Road (NPR). The remaining 74 shelters will serve the upper stretches of the Dwarka Expressway, covering sectors 99 to 115. At an estimated cost of Rs 18 crore, these bus shelters will not only provide better access but also include electric substations, enabling efficient charging of electric buses, further aligning with Gurgaon’s broader goal of promoting eco-friendly transportation.

Another game-changer in Gurgaon’s evolving infrastructure is the construction of a new bus depot in Sector 48, set to house up to 100 electric buses. Spanning 7.5 acres and costing Rs 17 crore, this depot will significantly enhance the operational capacity of the city’s public transport system, making commuting smoother, more accessible, and environmentally conscious. As transportation networks become more efficient, residents are expected to flock to areas with better connectivity, thereby driving real estate demand in these regions. In addition to these key developments, GMDA is taking steps to improve traffic flow by introducing bus lay-bys at strategic locations to mitigate congestion and ensure the safety of passengers. This attention to seamless transport will likely elevate Gurgaon’s appeal as a premium residential and commercial destination, particularly as it becomes an increasingly well-connected urban hub.

As part of its long-term vision, GMDA plans to introduce 700 electric AC buses in the next three years, bringing the total fleet to 900 by 2027-28. This large-scale move will play a pivotal role in stimulating the growth of surrounding areas, spurring residential property demand and accelerating commercial development in sectors benefiting from enhanced transport links. With its focus on sustainability, smart infrastructure, and growth, Gurgaon is positioning itself as a central player in the NCR real estate market, making it an attractive destination for both investors and homebuyers seeking a modern, eco-conscious, and well-connected urban lifestyle.
