Gurugram DC Issues Warning to Builders Over Delays in Safety Audit Fee Payments

Gurugram Deputy Commissioner (DC), Ajay Kumar, has issued a strong warning to builders over delays in depositing their share of structural audit fees, calling such behavior irresponsible and a threat to citizens’ safety. In a recent meeting with builder management teams, the DC expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of urgency in completing the structural audits in residential societies.

“Delaying the structural audit and fee deposits shows a lack of accountability towards citizens’ safety. This behavior is unacceptable,” DC Ajay Kumar stated. He directed defaulting Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to attend a separate meeting and instructed builders to ensure swift compliance with the regulations. Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Hitesh Kumar Meena explained that builders had the option to choose non-empanelled agencies for audits with RWA approval to speed up the process.

In the first phase, 15 societies were covered, and while 11 societies had completed testing, only two had begun repairs. However, pending fees from others were causing delays. In the second phase, 23 societies were included, and builders of 20 societies and RWAs of 22 societies had yet to submit the required fees. The DC emphasized that structural audits are essential to identify vulnerabilities and ensure that necessary repairs are completed to prevent potential hazards. He warned builders that strict action would be taken if further delays occurred, and reiterated the administration’s commitment to resident safety. The DC also highlighted the importance of collaboration between builders and RWAs to comply with safety regulations, warning that failure to do so would result in penalties.
