Lucknow Development Authority Mandates Rooftop Solar Panels for Residential Plots Above 1,000 Sq Ft

The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has made it mandatory for residential properties with a plot size of 1,000 square feet or more to install rooftop solar panels. This decision was announced during the 183rd board meeting held on Wednesday. Previously, the requirement to install rooftop solar systems applied only to residential properties with plots of 2,000 square feet or more. However, with the new policy, LDA aims to encourage the widespread adoption of solar energy, making it accessible to a larger section of the population.

Prathmesh Kumar, the vice-chairman of LDA, explained that the new mandate is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to promote clean and sustainable energy solutions for urban homes. As per the updated guidelines, homeowners planning to construct buildings on qualifying plot sizes must now include rooftop solar systems as part of their building plans, in line with the PM Surya Ghar scheme. This initiative aims to reduce carbon footprints and contribute to the overall growth of renewable energy infrastructure in the city. In addition to the solar panel mandate, the LDA also discussed several other key initiatives during the meeting. The board approved a plan to remodel 11 major intersections across the city to ease traffic congestion, especially during peak hours. The project, with an estimated budget of Rs 10 crore, focuses on upgrading traffic hotspots such as the Engineering College Crossing and Atal Chowk. The improvements will include road construction, expanded medians, new footpaths, road markings, and the installation of signboards to streamline traffic flow.

Furthermore, the LDA has approved the construction of a 2.75-meter-high boundary wall around two cremation sites in Jankipuram to resolve disputes between locals and villagers, with a cost of Rs 60 lakh. The authority also plans to install decorative and LED lighting at key intersections, valued at Rs 94 lakh, to improve safety and aesthetics. To assist displaced residents of Akbarnagar, Bhikhampur, and Butler Palace, who have been resettled in Basantkunj and Priyadarshini Colony, the LDA has decided to offer interest-free instalments. With these progressive initiatives, the Lucknow Development Authority is making significant strides toward enhancing infrastructure, fostering sustainability, and improving the quality of life for residents. The mandate for rooftop solar panels is a notable step in the city’s push toward greener energy solutions, aligning with national and global sustainability goals.
