GMDC-JK Cement Partnership to Drive Gujarat’s Cement Growth

In a significant move to bolster industrial growth in Gujarat, state-owned Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) has entered into a landmark long-term agreement with JK Cement Ltd. The pact will see GMDC supply a staggering 250 million tonnes of limestone to JK Cement, which is set to build a large-scale cement manufacturing plant in the Kutch district.

This deal spans over a period of four decades, with the limestone sourced from the upcoming Lakhpat Punrajpur Mine in Lakhpat Taluka. The limestone supply arrangement marks a pivotal moment for both companies. For GMDC, it strengthens its foothold in Gujarat’s mineral extraction sector, while for JK Cement, it secures a crucial resource for its ambitious cement plant project. The collaboration is expected to be transformative for the region, potentially creating thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities. Local communities stand to benefit significantly, as the deal is likely to spur socio-economic development in the state.

The strategic location of Kutch, with its coastal proximity, is a key factor in making this region an attractive hub for cement production. Enhanced connectivity to both domestic and international markets, along with cost-efficient logistics, will enable JK Cement to streamline operations and reduce transportation expenses. This partnership is expected to position Kutch as a crucial node in India’s cement manufacturing network, while also enhancing Gujarat’s industrial profile.

Moreover, the deal aligns with broader regional development goals, including fostering industrial growth and enhancing Gujarat’s competitive edge in the national and global cement market. The local availability of limestone, a critical raw material in cement production, will provide JK Cement with a stable, cost-effective supply, driving long-term growth. With the signing of this agreement, both GMDC and JK Cement are poised to contribute significantly to the industrial landscape of Gujarat, reinforcing the state’s position as a key player in India’s construction and infrastructure sectors.
