Bandra real estate: John Abraham leases apartment to publisher for Rs 7.5 lakh/month

Mumbai’s upscale rental market continues to attract high-value tenants as actor-producer John Abraham has leased his Bandra apartment for ₹7.5 lakh a month, highlighting the growing appetite for luxury housing among the city’s creative professionals.

The third-floor apartment, measuring around 2,000 sq ft in Bandra’s Green Acre building, has been leased for 36 months to a publishing professional, according to property registration documents reviewed by market trackers. The transaction, registered on 30 October, includes a ₹24 lakh security deposit and standard government charges, adding to a series of premium rental deals across Mumbai’s western suburbs. Industry analysts view the transaction as a reflection of how Bandra and its adjoining localities — once low-rise residential enclaves — have evolved into high-demand lifestyle zones balancing exclusivity and convenience. “Bandra remains one of the few neighbourhoods where professionals from creative industries can access both a vibrant community and modern infrastructure,” said a senior property consultant.

Abraham’s latest transaction follows his acquisition in December 2023 of a 5,416 sq ft bungalow in Khar, purchased along with 7,722 sq ft of land for over ₹70 crore. Experts suggest that such celebrity-linked deals play an outsized role in shaping aspirational real estate trends, influencing buyer sentiment and signalling stability in Mumbai’s luxury housing market. Beyond the celebrity connection, the deal underscores a larger urban dynamic. Mumbai’s post-pandemic housing preferences are shifting toward flexible, amenity-rich, and environmentally conscious homes. Tenants with higher disposable incomes increasingly prioritise access to green spaces, energy-efficient design, and proximity to work hubs. Developers and landlords are responding with smart retrofits and sustainability upgrades to remain competitive in the premium rental segment.

However, urban planners caution that the city’s drive toward high-value real estate must not widen the gap in housing access. “The focus on luxury rentals should go hand-in-hand with inclusive housing and climate-responsive design if Mumbai is to remain liveable for all income groups,” noted an urban policy researcher. With demand rising from professionals in media, publishing, and technology, Bandra continues to exemplify Mumbai’s shifting urban identity — where lifestyle, connectivity, and culture converge. For India’s financial capital, maintaining that balance between exclusivity and equity will define the next phase of its real estate evolution.
