AdaniConneX Pune Project Speeds Up Wall Construction

A hyperscale data centre project in Pune is demonstrating how industrial wall construction is reshaping the speed and efficiency of India’s rapidly expanding digital infrastructure. The development, part of a large-scale data centre campus, has adopted factory-engineered wall systems to accelerate execution timelines while maintaining structural and safety benchmarks critical to such facilities.

With India’s data consumption surging and cloud infrastructure expanding across metropolitan regions, developers are under increasing pressure to deliver high-performance assets within tight schedules. Data centres, unlike conventional commercial buildings, must become operational quickly to support digital services, making construction delays financially consequential. In this context, industrial wall construction is emerging as a viable alternative to traditional masonry. Instead of labour-intensive brickwork, the Pune project deployed large-format, steel-reinforced aerated concrete panels to build both internal and external walls. Industry experts note that this method reduces dependency on multiple on-site processes such as reinforcement placement, curing, and structural support installations.

Urban planners say such shifts reflect a broader move towards prefabrication and modular construction in Indian cities. “When projects scale up to hundreds of thousands of square feet, predictability becomes as important as cost,” said a senior infrastructure consultant. “Industrial systems reduce variability and improve coordination across trades.” The Pune facility required wall heights significantly higher than standard building norms, presenting structural and logistical challenges. Conventional approaches would have necessitated additional support systems, increasing both material usage and construction time. By contrast, engineered panels allowed for taller installations without intermediate supports, streamlining execution. Developers involved in similar projects indicate that industrial wall construction can compress timelines by several months, if not more, particularly in high-specification infrastructure such as data centres, logistics parks, and transit hubs. Faster enclosure of the building envelope also enables earlier commencement of mechanical, electrical and plumbing works, a critical factor in commissioning digital infrastructure.

Beyond speed, sustainability considerations are also shaping material choices. Prefabricated systems typically generate less on-site waste and can improve thermal efficiency, contributing to lower operational energy demand. As cities aim to align infrastructure growth with climate goals, such efficiencies are gaining importance. The adoption of industrial wall construction is not limited to data centres. Comparable systems are being used in transport infrastructure, warehousing, and institutional buildings, suggesting a wider shift in construction practices. Analysts see this as part of India’s transition towards more resilient and resource-efficient urban development. As digital infrastructure continues to expand into Tier I and emerging cities, construction technologies that offer reliability, scalability, and environmental benefits are likely to gain traction. The Pune project signals how industrialised building methods could become standard practice in delivering next-generation urban infrastructure.
