Zydex Paints Pushes Climate Responsive Building Solutions

Zydex Paints has positioned climate-responsive construction as a critical priority for India’s built environment, using a national architecture forum to highlight how material innovation can reshape building performance in diverse climatic zones. The company’s engagement at a recent industry conclave in Shillong underscores a growing shift toward region-specific design approaches as urbanisation accelerates across climate-sensitive geographies.

At the AAA Conclave 2026, hosted by the Association of Architects Assam, Zydex Paints presented its approach to addressing one of the construction sector’s persistent challenges—moisture retention in buildings, particularly in high-humidity regions. The company showcased mineral-based coating technologies designed to allow structures to regulate internal moisture while preventing external water penetration, improving durability and indoor conditions. The focus on climate-responsive building solutions comes at a time when India’s construction sector is increasingly grappling with environmental stressors, from extreme rainfall to rising humidity levels. In regions such as the Northeast, conventional materials often struggle to perform, leading to structural degradation, fungal growth, and frequent maintenance cycles. Industry experts at the event pointed to the need for materials that work with, rather than against, local climatic conditions. Zydex Paints’ proposition reflects a broader transition within the construction ecosystem—from standardised materials to performance-driven solutions tailored to geography. By enabling walls to “breathe,” such technologies can extend building life, reduce maintenance costs, and improve occupant health, particularly in dense urban environments where indoor air quality is an emerging concern.

Urban planners note that climate-responsive building solutions are becoming increasingly relevant as Indian cities expand into regions with varied environmental conditions. From coastal zones to high-rainfall belts, infrastructure must now account for long-term resilience rather than short-term cost efficiency. Materials that reduce moisture-related damage can also lower lifecycle emissions by minimising repair and replacement needs. The discussions at the conclave reflected a wider industry shift toward integrating sustainability into core design and construction practices. Architects and developers are increasingly prioritising materials that enhance durability while aligning with environmental goals, signalling a move toward more adaptive and resilient urban systems. For Zydex Paints, the emphasis on climate-responsive building solutions aligns with a broader strategy to position itself within India’s evolving green construction landscape. As infrastructure investments expand across regions with differing climatic challenges, demand for such specialised materials is expected to grow. However, scaling these solutions will depend on wider adoption across the construction value chain, including architects, contractors, and policymakers. Experts suggest that integrating climate-responsive materials into building codes and procurement standards could accelerate uptake and improve long-term urban resilience.

As India continues to urbanise, the ability of buildings to adapt to their environment is likely to become a defining factor in sustainable development. The push by companies like Zydex Paints signals a shift toward construction practices that prioritise durability, efficiency, and alignment with local climate realities—an approach that could shape the next phase of the country’s urban growth.
