Rising copper prices and changing manufacturing priorities are accelerating the use of aluminium across India’s industrial economy,with sectors ranging from power transmission and transport to construction and electric mobility increasingly evaluating the metal as a cost effective alternative.

The shift in aluminium demand could influence infrastructure planning, manufacturing strategies and the country’s transition towards more resource-efficient urban development.Manufacturers are reassessing material choices as volatility in global commodity markets affects production costs and supply chain planning.Aluminium,which offers lower weight, competitive pricing and high recyclability, is gaining attention for applications where engineering requirements allow substitution without compromising performance.Industry experts say the trend is particularly evident in electrical equipment,automotive components,renewable energy infrastructure and building systems.While copper remains essential for applications requiring higher electrical conductivity or specialised performance, advances in engineering design have expanded aluminium’s role in cables, conductors, structural components and transport equipment.The increase in aluminium demand carries broader implications for India’s urban infrastructure.
