Berger Paints RERA Context Enters Brand Campaign Debate

Berger Paints India has introduced a new brand platform, Rang Bana Rahe, shifting its advertising focus from the physical durability of painted surfaces to the idea of preserving individuality through difficult times. The move comes as paint brands compete for consumer attention beyond product performance, while changing weather, urban pollution and rising maintenance costs continue to shape how households view their homes.

The campaign uses a character named Khushrangi, a circus clown whose appearance remains colourful through rain, dust and heat. Rather than centring the film on a celebrity, Berger has chosen an unusual fictional figure to carry the campaign’s central message. The approach marks a change in how the company is presenting its long-standing association with colour protection. Berger’s new campaign extends an existing product narrative. Its earlier advertising has focused heavily on issues such as dust, waterproofing, stains and exterior durability. The company’s own advertising archive shows years of campaigns around these functional concerns, including WeatherCoat, Home Shield and Easy Clean. For urban households, that product positioning has a practical dimension. Exterior surfaces face increasingly difficult conditions in many Indian cities, including construction dust, intense heat and seasonal rainfall. Paint performance can affect maintenance cycles and the cost of keeping residential buildings in usable condition. Berger itself has previously linked urban construction activity with dust-related challenges for building exteriors.

The Rang Bana Rahe campaign therefore attempts to connect a familiar household purchase with a broader emotional idea. Industry observers say such positioning can help mature consumer brands remain relevant when product categories become increasingly crowded and functional differences are harder for buyers to assess. The campaign was launched as a longer-term brand platform rather than a single advertising film, with the company indicating that the idea will guide future consumer communication. Its rollout includes television, digital platforms and social media, with multilingual versions aimed at audiences across India. From an urban sustainability perspective, the more important question remains practical rather than promotional: whether advances in coatings can reduce repainting frequency, material use and maintenance demand without compromising indoor or environmental safety. Longer-lasting building surfaces could support more resource-efficient housing, but such benefits depend on product composition, lifecycle performance and responsible application.

RERA note: The announcement concerns a consumer brand and advertising campaign, not a housing or property development. Therefore, there is no project-level RERA registration or approval issue attached to the campaign. As India’s cities face greater exposure to heat, dust and extreme rainfall, the next phase of the paint industry will increasingly be judged not only by colour and appearance, but also by durability, resource use, building health and measurable environmental performance.
