Shalimar Paints Targets Premium Homes With Cooler Exteriors

Shalimar Paints has introduced a two-part exterior coating system aimed at premium housing, bringing waterproofing, heat management and decorative performance into a single application sequence. The launch matters beyond the paint market because building exteriors face rising heat, intense rainfall and repeated weathering, making surface durability increasingly relevant to household maintenance and building performance.

The system pairs Zero Damp Titan X16 as the waterproofing layer with Hero Titan X16 as the exterior finish. Shalimar Paints lists a 16-year warranty for each product, subject to its warranty terms and registration requirements. Its product documentation says the waterproofing layer is designed for prepared plaster, concrete and masonry and uses a PU hybrid polymer membrane reinforced with acrylic fibres. The company says the base coat can bridge cracks of up to 3 mm and resist water percolation. It is also specified for terraces, parapet walls, façades, basements and podium decks. That broad application range places waterproofing at the centre of the system rather than treating it as a separate repair measure after seepage appears.

Hero Titan X16 forms the finishing layer. The company describes it as an exterior emulsion using Tri-Shield Polymer Technology and Photo-Stable Colour Lock Technology. The system also carries a Thermal Barrier Mechanism claim of reducing surface temperatures by up to 25°C. This figure is a manufacturer claim, and the actual effect on indoor temperatures would depend on factors such as roof or wall exposure, colour, insulation, ventilation and building design. That distinction is important for homeowners and developers. A cooler exterior surface can reduce heat entering a building, but paint alone cannot substitute for passive cooling measures such as shading, insulation, ventilation and reflective design. In a warming urban environment, coatings are better viewed as one component of a wider building-envelope strategy.

The launch also reflects a broader shift in housing maintenance. Premium buyers are increasingly assessing products by expected service life and upkeep, while developers face pressure to control recurring repair costs. Longer warranty periods may therefore influence purchasing decisions, but their value depends on surface preparation, application quality, maintenance conditions and the exclusions attached to warranty coverage.For cities, the more significant question is whether such technologies can improve building resilience without encouraging higher material consumption or unnecessary replacement cycles.
