Berger Paints India Sees Buying As Paint Demand Shifts

Berger Paints India shares moved higher during trading on September 30, with the stock reaching ₹457.15 by 1:22 pm, up 2.04% from the previous close. The move comes as investors weigh the paint maker’s recent earnings growth against a relatively elevated valuation, highlighting the tension between improving operating performance and market expectations.

The stock opened at ₹450.60 and moved between ₹450 and ₹458.65 during the session before trading at ₹457.15. Its market capitalisation was around ₹52,826 crore at the quoted level. Later market data showed the stock at ₹455.05 at 3:50 pm, indicating that the intraday gain moderated towards the end of the session. The immediate price movement does not appear to have been accompanied by a clearly identified company-specific announcement. That makes the rise more relevant as a market signal than as evidence of a new business development. For investors tracking the Berger Paints share price, the larger question is whether stronger operating numbers can sustain market expectations.

The company entered FY27 with a stronger first quarter. Consolidated revenue from operations reached ₹3,583.75 crore in the June quarter, an increase of nearly 12% year on year. Net profit attributable to owners rose 28.5% to ₹404.34 crore, while EBITDA increased about 15%. That improvement followed a better March quarter as well. Consolidated net profit had increased 27.5% year on year to about ₹335 crore in Q4 FY26, supported by product-mix changes and softer raw-material costs. The company had also reported volume growth of 11.8% during the quarter.  However, the Berger Paints share price is being assessed against demanding valuation measures. The September 30 data showed a P/E of 42.94 times and a price-to-book ratio of 7.15 times. Its return ratios were stronger, with ROE at 17.28% and ROCE at 23.14%. These measures indicate that investors are pricing the company on expectations extending beyond its latest quarterly performance.

The wider paints market also remains closely linked to housing construction, repairs, commercial development and infrastructure spending. For cities, stronger demand for coatings reflects continued investment in buildings and urban assets, but it also places greater emphasis on material efficiency, durability and lower-impact construction practices. The next earnings cycle will therefore be important for separating short-term market movement from underlying business trends. Revenue growth, margins, raw-material costs and demand across urban and smaller markets will offer a clearer picture of whether recent operating gains are becoming more durable.
