JSW Dulux Targets Premium Homes As Demand Shifts

JSW Dulux has launched a new national campaign for Dulux Velvet Touch Eterna as competition intensifies in India’s premium decorative paints segment. The move places greater emphasis on high-end interior finishes and changing consumer preferences, while also marking another visible step for the company following JSW Paints’ takeover of its former Akzo Nobel India business.

The campaign centres on the idea of premium interiors rather than paint alone. Its two-film format uses large residential spaces, furniture, lighting and colour to position wall finishes as part of a broader interior design decision. The approach reflects a market where affluent urban households are increasingly treating finishes, materials and visual detailing as elements of home value. For the luxury paint market, that shift could be significant. Premium coatings typically compete less on basic coverage and more on finish, colour depth, durability and design appeal. Dulux already positions Velvet Touch Eterna around an ultra-matte finish and a collection of 10 curated shades, indicating how decorative paints are increasingly being sold as part of an interior aesthetic rather than simply as a construction input.

The timing also comes as JSW Dulux enters a new phase of corporate ownership. JSW Paints acquired a 61.2% stake in the former Akzo Nobel India in December 2025, while the company adopted the JSW Dulux name in 2026. The business retains the Dulux, International and Sikkens brands and operates five manufacturing facilities alongside its research and distribution network. Recent financial performance provides another layer to the strategy. JSW Dulux reported 23% volume growth in the fourth quarter of FY2025-26, while revenue from operations rose 6.2% year on year to ₹883.3 crore. For the full year, however, revenue declined marginally, showing that stronger volumes do not automatically translate into equivalent value growth.

That makes premiumisation an important commercial lever for the luxury paint market, particularly in major cities where higher-value homes, renovation activity and design-led residential demand can support specialised products. Industry observers say the challenge will be to expand premium categories without turning urban housing into an increasingly resource-intensive consumption cycle. For consumers, the next test is whether premium finishes deliver measurable value through durability, maintenance and longer replacement cycles rather than only visual appeal. As Indian cities add more housing and renovation demand grows, the paint industry’s expansion will increasingly intersect with questions around material efficiency, indoor environments and the environmental footprint of buildings.
