MHADA Announces 450 Flats for EWS in Nashik with Online Application Process

Nashik, February 7, 2025 – The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has announced the availability of 450 flats under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) quota in Nashik, offering a unique opportunity for low-income groups to secure affordable housing in the city. The flats, spread across 15 residential building projects, will be allotted through an online application process, with the draw scheduled to take place shortly after the application deadline.

MHADA’s initiative forms part of the Maharashtra government’s effort to ensure that the EWS group—individuals with limited financial means—has access to safe and affordable housing. The flats are located in various areas within the jurisdiction of Nashik Municipal Corporation, including Makhmalabad, Satpur, Vihitgaon, Hirawadi, Mhasrul, Wadala, Pimpalgaon Bahula, Dasak, and Deolali. The flats are being offered under the norm that requires 20% of all flats in residential projects exceeding 4,000 square metres to be reserved for EWS families. This policy is applicable in cities with a population of over 10 lakh, such as Nashik. This means that these 450 flats are part of a much larger vision to address the housing needs of lower-income groups in rapidly growing urban areas.

The application process for the flats is entirely online, making it accessible for a larger number of applicants. Interested individuals from the EWS category have until March 6, 2025, to submit their applications. Following the application deadline, a draw of lots will be conducted to determine the lucky recipients of these flats. The date and venue of the draw will be announced by MHADA in due course. MHADA has specified that the list of eligible beneficiaries will be available on their online portal, giving transparency and ensuring that the process remains fair. This initiative is expected to help many Nashik residents from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to find affordable housing in a city that is witnessing rapid urban development. Since 2020, MHADA has allocated 1,328 flats under its low-income housing projects across 157 residential projects in Nashik. These flats were part of 33 building projects on land parcels of 4,000 square metres or more. These initiatives have been crucial in addressing the growing housing demand in the region, ensuring that a significant portion of the city’s population has access to basic housing.

MHADA officials stated that the authority’s aim is to continue these efforts, with a focus on expanding the availability of flats for low-income groups in the coming years. This 450-flat offering is another step in MHADA’s ongoing efforts to provide accessible housing for those who need it most. The push for affordable housing comes at a time when cities like Nashik are rapidly expanding, driven by both economic growth and increased urbanisation. However, such growth often leads to widening socio-economic gaps, and initiatives like this one are crucial in ensuring that vulnerable groups are not left behind. For those in the EWS category, these flats represent more than just a place to live—they are an opportunity for a better future. By opening doors for these families, MHADA is not only addressing the immediate housing crisis but also laying the groundwork for more inclusive, equitable urban development. With the March 6 deadline fast approaching, many low-income families are eager to apply for these flats, which could change their lives for the better. As Nashik continues to grow and evolve, initiatives like this are key to creating a balanced, sustainable urban environment where everyone has a chance to thrive.
