Sakarni Investment Could Strengthen Regional Construction Supply

Delhi-based building materials manufacturer Sakarni Plaster is planning an investment of about ₹450 crore over the next two years, with new production facilities proposed in Andhra Pradesh and Mathura. The expansion could increase regional supplies of gypsum boards and paints while adding manufacturing capacity to a construction market already facing rising demand for housing, infrastructure and urban development.

The company plans to establish a gypsum board facility in Andhra Pradesh and a paint manufacturing plant in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. It also intends to increase output at its existing facilities. Sakarni currently has 12 manufacturing plants, with a significant share of its operations concentrated in Rajasthan. Its product portfolio includes Plaster of Paris, wall putty, gypsum boards, paints, tile adhesives, construction chemicals and waterproofing products. The planned geographic expansion is significant because building materials are closely linked to the cost and speed of construction. More localised manufacturing can reduce the distance products travel to growing markets, although the eventual impact will depend on plant locations, logistics networks, energy use and the scale of production. The company recorded revenue of about ₹900 crore in the last financial year. The proposed investment therefore represents a substantial capacity-building programme relative to its existing business size.

The expansion also needs to be viewed alongside India’s continuing real estate and infrastructure growth. RERA has increased the importance of transparency and delivery discipline in registered real estate projects, but manufacturing investments themselves are not RERA projects. Their relevance is indirect: reliable supplies of compliant building materials can influence construction schedules, project costs and delivery timelines. For homebuyers, tenants and urban workers, the more important question will be whether additional manufacturing capacity translates into dependable supply and competitive pricing rather than simply greater industrial output. The environmental footprint of new plants will also matter. Gypsum processing, paint manufacturing and construction-material production require energy, water, transport and chemical inputs. New facilities therefore create an opportunity to incorporate efficient machinery, renewable electricity, waste recovery and responsible water management from the design stage.

Urban planners and industry specialists say manufacturing growth is most useful when it keeps pace with infrastructure, employment and environmental capacity in host regions. Andhra Pradesh and Mathura will consequently need adequate transport links, utilities and worker-support systems as industrial activity expands. For Sakarni, the next challenge is execution. The proposed ₹450 crore investment will need to move from announced capacity to operational plants while meeting environmental, industrial and local regulatory requirements. For cities and construction markets, the value of the expansion will ultimately be measured by how efficiently that new capacity supports durable, affordable and resource-conscious development.
