Asian Paints targets easier home renovation for consumers

Asian Paints is using a new advertising campaign to reposition home painting as a more organised, technology-enabled service rather than a periodic household chore. Developed with Ogilvy India, the campaign highlights consultation, planning and professional execution, reflecting a broader shift in India’s home-improvement market towards managed renovation services. The change matters as urban households increasingly seek predictable costs, timelines and less disruption during upgrades.

The company’s Beautiful Homes Painting Service already combines colour consultation, site assessment, professional application and post-work cleaning. Its service model also uses mechanised tools, moisture meters, digital measurements and supervised execution. These features indicate how traditionally fragmented home-maintenance work is moving towards more formalised service delivery. For consumers, that shift addresses a practical problem. Repainting often involves coordinating contractors, estimating material requirements, selecting finishes and managing furniture or dust during work. A managed service can reduce that coordination burden, but it also changes the economics of a job by bundling materials, labour and technical assistance. The critical issue will be whether such convenience remains affordable for middle-income households rather than becoming primarily a premium urban service. The campaign comes as paint companies increasingly compete beyond the sale of cans and coatings.

Professional application, waterproofing, colour advice and home décor services create additional points of contact with homeowners. Asian Paints’ existing service infrastructure includes trained applicators, site supervision and digital quotations, showing that the business is moving further into the execution side of home renovation. That evolution also has implications for labour. Formalised painting services can create demand for better-trained applicators and clearer work processes, while reducing reliance on informal arrangements where quality, safety and payment terms can vary considerably. For the sector to deliver wider social value, however, professionalisation needs to include fair working conditions and accessible skills development, not simply stronger customer control. There is also a sustainability dimension. Better site assessment can help determine how much material is actually required, while mechanised sanding and dust extraction can improve working conditions and reduce avoidable waste. Yet smart home painting should not be equated automatically with sustainable renovation.

Paint production, packaging, transport, discarded containers and volatile organic compounds remain relevant environmental considerations. The overall impact depends on product choice, application practices and disposal. For rapidly expanding cities, the larger opportunity lies in treating maintenance as part of urban resilience. Well-maintained buildings can remain usable for longer, helping reduce premature renovation and material consumption. Smart home painting therefore has relevance beyond advertising: it points towards a more structured home-maintenance economy where convenience, worker safety, material efficiency and transparent pricing need to advance together. The next test is whether technology-led painting services can move beyond affluent markets and become reliable, transparent and reasonably priced options for a wider range of Indian households.
