Mumbai To Host IGBC Green Building Congress 2025 Marking 25 Years Of Sustainability

Mumbai will host the 23rd edition of the Green Building Congress 2025, India’s largest congregation on sustainable built environments, organised by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) under the Confederation of Indian Industry. Scheduled from 27 to 29 November 2025 at the Jio World Convention Centre, the event will mark 25 years of IGBC’s leadership in driving India’s transition towards green and net zero buildings.

Themed “Green Shifts for Greener Tomorrows: Do Good, Feel Good – Embrace Green Choices for a Sustainable Future,” this year’s congress seeks to foster dialogue and partnerships across government, industry, and academia. The conference will bring together architects, developers, engineers, and policymakers from across the world to share actionable strategies that can help India meet its 2070 net zero target.

According to IGBC officials, the event aims to accelerate India’s green transition through innovation, business collaboration, and knowledge exchange. “The Congress serves as a platform for connecting sustainability thought leaders with those building India’s future cities,” said a senior council representative. The three-day international conference will run alongside a grand Green Expo, showcasing more than 1,000 eco-friendly products and technologies from India and abroad. Exhibitors will feature innovations in building materials, renewable energy, climate-smart design, and digital tools for decarbonising construction.Highlight sessions will explore AI and IoT in buildings, green financing, carbon-neutral cities, net zero homes, and women’s leadership in sustainability. Dedicated youth programmes, design competitions, and awards will celebrate innovation among emerging professionals and students.

In keeping with its sustainability commitment, the 2025 edition will be organised as a carbon-neutral event, with the IGBC pledging to reduce and offset the Congress’s resource footprint. “From one certified building in 2001 to over 14 billion sq. ft. of registered green footprint today, India’s progress has been extraordinary,” said an IGBC official. “Now is the time to innovate boldly and design for the future.”

Experts believe hosting the event in Mumbai is symbolic. Maharashtra has emerged as a leading state in India’s green building movement, with growing adoption of IGBC and GRIHA certifications across commercial, residential, and public sector developments. Local planners note that greener buildings are essential to improving the city’s resilience, air quality, and liveability in the face of rapid urbanisation. As Asia’s largest platform for sustainable construction and design, the Green Building Congress 2025 will reinforce India’s ambition to become a global leader in green infrastructure driven by collaboration, innovation, and a shared responsibility towards climate action.
