UltraTech Cement Flags Lost Share Certificate Notice

UltraTech Cement has notified stock exchanges about a newspaper advertisement concerning a lost share certificate, adding another routine investor-protection filing to the company’s September disclosures. The notice is relevant mainly to holders of physical securities and reflects the safeguards used to prevent unauthorised duplicate issuance.

The company submitted the advertisement to the BSE and National Stock Exchange on 23 September 2026 under its listed equity identifiers, BSE code 532538 and NSE symbol ULTRACEMCO. The filing was also addressed to the Luxembourg Stock Exchange, where UltraTech’s global depositary securities are represented by codes US90403E1038 and US90403E2028.A lost share certificate is primarily an issue for investors whose holdings remain in physical form. India’s securities framework has progressively shifted towards dematerialisation, reducing the operational risks associated with paper certificates. Under SEBI’s framework, duplicate securities are issued in dematerialised form, while procedures remain in place for cases involving older physical certificates.

The latest filing does not indicate a change in UltraTech Cement’s share capital, ownership structure or operating performance. It is therefore separate from the company’s business outlook, cement demand or infrastructure expansion plans. Investors holding shares electronically through depositories are generally outside the certificate-replacement process. The regulatory process is nevertheless important because a lost certificate can create a risk of competing claims if ownership records are not carefully verified. SEBI’s 2022 framework introduced standardised documentation for duplicate securities, including requirements around loss reporting, affidavits and indemnity arrangements. It also established an exemption from some requirements where the value of the securities does not exceed ₹5 lakh.UltraTech’s investor information identifies KFin Technologies as its registrar and transfer agent, providing a formal channel for shareholder service requests. For investors still holding physical securities, keeping folio, identity and correspondence records updated remains important as companies continue moving towards fully electronic ownership systems.

The filing also comes against a wider shift in corporate record-keeping, where digital securities reduce paperwork and strengthen traceability. For large infrastructure-linked businesses such as cement manufacturers, efficient investor administration forms part of broader market transparency, even when an individual certificate notice has no direct bearing on construction activity or financial performance. For shareholders, the immediate significance is limited to the certificate identified in the public notice. Any claim or objection should be handled through the company or its authorised registrar within the applicable notice period, rather than being treated as a corporate action affecting the wider shareholder base.
