Berger Paints Recasts Colour For Changing Urban Lives

New Delhi: Berger Paints India has introduced a refreshed brand identity through its new Rang Bana Rahe campaign, shifting its communication from paint performance towards a wider idea of resilience. The move comes as changing weather, dust and heat increasingly shape how urban residents experience homes and buildings, making durability and maintenance relevant beyond aesthetics.

The Rang Bana Rahe campaign centres on a fictional character, Khushrangi, whose appearance remains unchanged as he encounters rain, dust and heat. The film uses these everyday environmental pressures as a way to connect the company’s colour-protection proposition with personal identity and resilience. For the paint industry, the shift is significant because competition is no longer limited to colour choice. Consumers are increasingly exposed to products marketed around weather resistance, stain protection, cleaning and longer-lasting finishes. Berger has previously positioned products including HomeShield, WeatherCoat Anti Dust and Easy Clean around such functional requirements. The campaign itself does not change construction standards or RERA requirements. However, paint and surface finishes form part of the specifications disclosed for many registered housing projects.

State RERA records, for example, include details on wall finishes, internal paint and external colour schemes in project specifications. That distinction matters for homebuyers. Marketing claims about durability or protection should not be confused with legally disclosed construction specifications. For residents, the practical question remains whether the materials used in a building can withstand local climatic conditions and reduce recurring maintenance costs. Urban planners and building professionals have increasingly highlighted the need to consider heat, moisture, dust and extreme weather when selecting materials. Exterior coatings can form one part of that response, but they cannot substitute for better building design, ventilation, insulation, shading or water management.

The campaign has been developed with Sideways Consulting and is being distributed through television, digital platforms, social media and other consumer channels. The film has also been produced in multiple Indian languages, giving the initiative a broader national reach. For cities facing hotter summers, intense rainfall and growing maintenance pressures, the wider issue is less about branding and more about how buildings age. Longer-lasting materials can potentially reduce repair cycles and resource use, but their value ultimately depends on product performance, appropriate application and transparent information for consumers.
