LG Electronics is preparing a major expansion of its manufacturing base in India, with reports indicating a large investment to upgrade its Greater Noida appliance facility. The move highlights India’s growing role as a production hub and could create jobs, strengthen supply chains and support cleaner industrial growth near major urban markets.

According to industry reports, the South Korean company plans to invest about KRW1.4 trillion, roughly US$1 billion, into expanding production capacity at its Greater Noida complex in Uttar Pradesh. The site is already one of LG Electronics’ important manufacturing centres in India, serving domestic demand for refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines and other household appliances. For India’s urban economy, the significance goes beyond one factory. Consumer appliances are closely linked to rising household incomes, expanding middle-class housing and the rapid growth of tier-two and tier-three cities. As residential construction spreads beyond metro areas, demand for cooling products, kitchen appliances and energy-efficient devices is increasing steadily.The proposed LG India manufacturing expansion also reflects a wider shift in global supply chains.
