JK Lakshmi Cement Opens National Awards For Impact

JK Lakshmi Cement has launched a national awards programme recognising individuals working across environmental protection, public infrastructure and women’s empowerment. The initiative brings attention to areas closely linked with the quality of India’s cities and communities, including climate action, water management, public health, education and urban development.

The Unstoppables Awards will cover three broad areas, with nine sub-categories. Environment-related awards will focus on climate action and renewable energy, water conservation, and biodiversity. The public infrastructure segment includes health, education and digital infrastructure, along with rural and urban development. The third area covers women entrepreneurs and innovators, social transformation, and women working in education, health and skills. A separate lifetime achievement award will recognise an individual for sustained contribution and leadership. The programme comes as infrastructure expansion across India increasingly faces questions around environmental impact, resource efficiency and access. For cities, the quality of development is no longer measured only by the amount of roads, housing or public facilities delivered, but also by how effectively projects respond to water stress, extreme weather, ecological loss and unequal access to essential services.

The awards’ environmental focus is particularly relevant to the construction sector. Cement remains a major material for housing and infrastructure, while its production is resource- and emissions-intensive. JK Lakshmi Cement has stated that decarbonisation, resource efficiency, circularity and renewable energy are part of its sustainability strategy, alongside a longer-term net-zero ambition. The company is also pursuing significant capacity expansion. Its investor disclosures show installed capacity of about 18 million tonnes, with a stated target of reaching 30 million tonnes by 2030. Planned growth includes new and expanded manufacturing facilities, making resource use and environmental performance increasingly relevant as the company’s physical footprint expands.

The Unstoppables Awards will be evaluated by a jury drawn from public service, environmental work, social initiatives, law enforcement, business and media. The organisers say the nomination and assessment process is intended to provide a structured basis for selecting recipients. For citizens, the significance of the Unstoppables Awards will ultimately depend on whether recognition translates into greater visibility for practical solutions. Water security, resilient infrastructure, ecological restoration, accessible public services and women’s economic participation remain areas where measurable outcomes matter more than ceremonial recognition. The programme’s longer-term relevance will therefore rest on the quality and reach of the work it brings into public view.
