L&T Strengthens Global Renewable Presence With Role In TenneT Offshore Wind Project

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has achieved a significant milestone in its global renewable energy journey, securing a key engineering and construction role in TenneT’s High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) offshore wind programme. The Dutch–German transmission operator’s project is one of Europe’s largest grid integration initiatives aimed at accelerating the continent’s clean energy transition.

Under a partnership with Hitachi Energy, L&T will deliver advanced HVDC converter stations that connect large-scale offshore wind power from the North Sea to the European grid. These systems are critical for transmitting renewable electricity efficiently over long distances, supporting Germany and the Netherlands in meeting their ambitious climate and energy targets.

Industry experts noted that the collaboration underlines India’s growing footprint in global green infrastructure. L&T’s participation reinforces its reputation as a world-class engineering firm capable of executing complex, technology-driven renewable energy projects across geographies.A senior company official stated that the partnership reflects international confidence in L&T’s capacity to manage multidisciplinary assignments combining engineering precision, sustainability, and large-scale project management. The project will also demonstrate India’s capability to contribute to the global renewable supply chain, particularly in offshore infrastructure and clean power technologies.

TenneT’s offshore wind initiative is a cornerstone of Europe’s plan to expand renewable capacity and phase out fossil fuels. Each HVDC system will be designed to integrate multiple gigawatts of offshore wind energy, delivering stable, low-loss power transmission to mainland Europe. The integration of such technology is expected to reduce grid congestion, enhance energy security, and help nations move closer to their net-zero commitments.

According to industry analysts, L&T’s role could open doors for greater participation by Indian engineering companies in Europe’s energy transition projects. The partnership also signals a shift in global collaboration patterns, where expertise from emerging economies is increasingly sought to achieve sustainable infrastructure goals.L&T, with its world-class fabrication facilities and a track record in complex offshore platforms, has been steadily diversifying into renewable infrastructure. The company’s involvement in TenneT’s programme not only expands its international portfolio but also aligns with India’s broader ambition to position itself as a global hub for green technology and sustainable engineering solutions.By bridging engineering excellence with sustainability, L&T’s contribution to the TenneT project reflects a growing synergy between India’s industrial capabilities and the global clean energy movement.
